Agenda Understanding the Hidden Impacts of Fraud
We will set the tone for the two-day course, as we explore the roles involved in a typical fraud scheme - the victim, the fraudsters, and the whistleblowers. Understanding the human and emotional impacts of these situations can help provide clues to the investigator or CPA managing the case.
Think Like a Forensic Accountant
What are tools, both personal and professional, an investigative accountant uses when approaching a case? How can that mindset and the use of those tools better your audits, investigations, or other client engagements? We will also explore Auditor's Responsibilities under current professional standards.
Using Excel to Make Your Case
Are you using all of the data analysis tools available to you? We will take real data and explore various ways to analyze and present information to make your case.
Interviewing Skills for Auditors
Building rapport. Recognizing nuances in answers by interviewees. Approaching an impending interview, including the set-up of your interview room. Learn how small but effective changes can lead to big clues in all interviewing situations.
We will dedicate an entire day to analyzing interview records, documents, and other information in cases investigated by Acuity. This will be a "hands-on" day, challenging you to identify potential avenues of investigation, interview questions, and additional suspects. We will cover all of the most prevalent fraud schemes, including:
- Financial statement fraud
- Cash skimming schemes
- Fraudulent disbursement schemes (including payroll and expense reimbursement schemes)
- Kickback schemes

"Tiffany Couch is one of the ACFE's most respected members. In this book, she shares practical advice on detecting and preventing many of the internal frauds that organizations fall victim to each day. Her use of actual case examples and personal stories makes the lessons less like a textbook and more like a good "whodunit." It is a great resource for both business management and anti-fraud professionals." James D. Ratley, CFE President Association of Certified Fraud Examiners
